Living in Vacation Mode

Did you find yourself in a vacation state of mind this summer? Sometimes, it seems like being away from work, or spending time in a beautiful location with family and friends can help your mind relax and slow down. Vacation mode seems to emerge when you are out of your daily routines.

However, having a vacation state of mind actually has nothing to do with your location, being away from work, or spending time with family and friends. It does, in fact, have everything to do with your thinking. In other words, it is possible to live in a vacation state of mind year-round, regardless of your circumstances. The calmer, more relaxed state of mind you find while vacationing is simply a reflection of the calmer, more relaxed thinking you tend to do on vacation.

The realities of your daily life don’t cease to exist when you leave town for a week or so. The circumstances of your job don’t change just because you are in a new locale. The only difference is your thinking. When you are on vacation, you often give yourself permission to relax. You don’t think as much or as hard about your work/life circumstances. Sometimes you can completely free your mind.

Then there are the times when you go on vacation, and, despite the change of scenery, find it difficult to disconnect and relax. It might take a few days before you truly reach vacation mode. If you take a look, you’ll find the explanation in your thinking. When your thinking is charged, you are charged. And when your thinking finally relaxes, you relax. For some of us, this takes a few days. Some of us make the shift immediately. Either way, the difference is your thinking.

As we’re sure you know, being in vacation mode is a nice place to live. Life is enjoyable and feels good. You are more creative, free, and in tune with your surroundings and yourself. You solve problems and navigate hiccups easily. In other words, you are at your best.

We’re here to tell you that you don’t need to go on vacation to be at your best. The vacation state of mind is available to you, all the time, no matter where you are or what is happening in your life.. If you begin to value vacation mode thinking in your office/cubicle just as you do on the beach, you might be surprised by how smart and creative you become. Welcome home.
